On this set the undocumented group of session players run through a whole bunch of spacey cuts, complete with fuzzed out electric guitar and sitar, weird period electronics, and more than a few funky drum breaks. The Music posts are for enjoyment and evaluation purposes only. Trip hop meets modern exotica, the elements all mix smoothly like a martini shaken not stirred. An example might be a recording with surface noise so heavy that it is equal to the volume of the music. It's probably the best track they ever did, and it's all here in a version that's nearly 12 minutes long — with loads of samples that you'll. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.
These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Track six, The Killing River Without The Sun, Moon, Or Stars , features a beautifully haunting female singer, a reverberated steel guitar and a tambourine. Come as you are, you can even take your clothes off when you dance. Of course all the other guitar gods were added over the years, along with a lot of other great music.
Would appreciate removal of this album from Sharbee - thank you Lee Dionysus Records Lounge Rules: No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service. Depending on the quality of the vinyl, may play with surface noise throughout. The vibraphone is now the standout instrument, and chinese gongs and chirping birds are added to the mix. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record. Another stormer follows thereafter: Polynesia Poppies resumes the atmosphere of Pacifica 66 with a brighter touch. I also dig the ukulele.
If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. Hi - once again - this release is in print and avalible via Dionysus Records, Amazon, iTunes, etc - it cost myself and the band a lot of money to releaese this record. Used Vinyl Grades Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. We've often found that records which are clearly unplayed will have a slight amount of surface noise, especially in quieter recordings. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail. The haunting flute melody is accompanied by female chants. Tiki for the Atomic Age is the group's second album.
Kava Kon's music is influenced by the classic exotica sound of Martin Denny, Arthur Lyman and Bob Drasnin, obscure thrift store vinyl, Hollywood B-movie soundtracks of the '50s and '60s, Dub pioneers of Jamaica such as King Tubby, Scientist, and Lee 'Scratch Perry' and early Detroit techno sounds of Juan Atkins, Drexciya and Jeff Mills. Take Chinese Surfer, for example, with its quavering, twisted theremin-like strings, the vividly lush bongos, its drunk seaman choir, and its mandatory inclusion of two surf guitars. In fact, the harmonies are even better than before,. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. It has the same dope production style and sense of satire that have made all of the other projects he's.
Palace Of The Tiger Women is another Middle Eastern song with the addition of a harp and marimbas. This is mean surf music for indefeasible bandits and not exactly suitable for a bright beach day. I wish that this album was a bit more coherent — I can really split its sections in two halves: whereas the first 5 songs depict a raw wasteland with the addition of heavy beats and eerie melodies, the second half, starting with The Killing River Without The Sun, Moon, Or Stars , is blissful, relaxing and Lyman-esque. Another gigantic track, although it has nothing to do with the Exotica genre despite its bird samples and flute melodies. Additionally, all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record.
Again, this is no Easy Listening, but a graver interpretation of bazaar music. A wonderful album — one of the group's best! If you listen carefully, you can hear the permanent sound of distant cascades — a nice addition! The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single: Sealed This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. It starts with majestic strings as if the listener encounters a beautiful vista, and breaks loose after a minute with dominant beats, samples of male choirs and a trembling main melody realized with synths. But what about the music? Kava Kon Tiki For The Atomic Age 2009 Kava Kon is the duo of Nels Truesdell and Bob Kress, their music-related home is on Dionysus Records. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise. In the middle, a syncopated shift in rhythm takes place for a minute, before the song ends the way it started. Nels Truesdell's eclectic background in electronic music production and his collection of vintage electronic music equipment gives 'Tiki for the Atomic Age' a hypnotic, flowing and modern sound.
Think of neo psyche exotica and you have it. Lively Discussion is encourgaged -- foul language and other types of impunation of character is not. The listener is almost scared off, but things change for the better. A great idea is the 70-second Ambient intermission which is added to the end of the song: relaxing ocean waves and a melody quietly plucked on a distant acoustic guitar let me beg for more sounds of this kind. It's an amazingly fantastic wonderful nearly supernaturally great neo-exotica album.
Enter Pacifica 66, which is a killer track. Not the best start for this album in my opinion, because this particular apocalyptic Middle Eastern style is a one-time affair, and the thumping beats are surely effective, but overall too dominant in comparison to all the tracks that follow and that completely shift the mood away to brighter territory. The inclusion of Ambient noises and nature recordings are always welcome here at AmbientExotica. Cover art by Canadian pop surrealist painter Heather Watts takes Kava Kon's unique sound into the visual realm. Fair This is a grade we rarely use, as we try not to sell records in very bad condition, though in some rare cases we will list a record in such bad shape that it does not conform to the standards above. May have some other significant flaws, such as residue, or a track that skips.
